Ar.Vi.Ma., Civic School of Art of Pavia, in collaboration with the Culture Sector of the Municipality of Pavia and with the Collegio Fratelli Cairoli of Pavia, announces the competition for the seventh edition of the Artist’s Residence, which it intends to offer to the Italian or foreign artist the opportunity to stay and work in Pavia for the first three weeks of June.
Purposes of the Residence
In this seventh edition, the Residence is dedicated to the theme of biodiversity, in conjunction with the three-year Biovario project promoted by Ar.Vi.Ma, University of Pavia-Orto Botanico and Department of Earth Sciences.
The residence therefore intends to support an artist who has for already embarked on search legible path research and who uses the Pavia living room to continue the study, translating the theme of biodiversity into his own language in a job that will become part of the permanent collection of the School.
During the work-stay, the artist will be able to draw food for thought from the materials made available by scientists and researchers involved in the Biovario project.
Commitments of the winning artist
The winning artist will work on his project at the Ar.Vi.Ma., without time limits.
The artist be independent in finding the materials and equipment necessary to carry out the job.
During his stay, the artist must report to the artistic director on the work in progress, on a weekly basis. It will also hold at least one meeting with the public (conference and / or workshop).
The completed job will be exhibited in an institutional city space or in another suitable space.
The winner of the residence must carry in the best way the given spaces and comply with the regulations for the use of the premises and furnishings made available.
Ar.vi.ma disclaims any responsibility for damage caused inside the accommodation made available to the artist and in the workplace and / or for damage to third parties that will be charged directly to the artist.
The second classified
The Commission will identify a second runner-up who will be entitled to a special mention.
The selected artist may send a small format job which will be exhibited in one of the places identifying the entities involved in the Artist’s Residence: Ar.vi.ma, Edisu and Municipality of Pavia.
Discounts and scholarships for the winning artist
Workspace: Ar.Vi.Ma. headquarters, Viale Nazario Sauro 5, Pavia
Accommodation: Collegio Fratelli Cairoli, Pavia
Board: paid by Ar.Vi.Ma.
Scholarship: € 1,500.00
The costs incurred for any travel and/or transportation during the stay are borne by the artist.
Requirements for participation
The competition is aimed at artists who have reached the age of 25 and who have no academic studies in progress.
Non-European candidates must be in possession of a valid residence permit or arrange in advance and independently to regularize their stay in Italy for the period of stay linked to this announcement.

Given the character of cultural exchange of the scholarship, competitors resident in the province of Pavia are considered excluded.
Any non-compliant material submitted will be ignored.
Communication of results
The winner of the selected residence and the second place winner will be promptly contacted at the addresses indicated in the application form for the activation of all Residence procedures.
The result of the selection will be published on the websites of the AR.Vi.Ma. and the Municipality of Pavia from 30 April 2020.

In case of equal judgment, the Ar.Vi.Ma. will be called to cast a vote.
The selection committee’s judgment parameters are not questionable.
Participation in the competition implies full acceptance of these regulations.

The notification of the announcement will be circulated even trough online art magazines and social networks.
